Artist's Comments

This dramatically theatrical painting idealizes the death of Ludovica, with the pain, suffering and yet heavenly happiness present in her pose and expression, is inspired by a sculpture of Gianlorenzo Bernini, commissioned by Cardinal Albertoni and currently situated above the Altieri Chapel alter where she is buried.

Ludovica died in 1533 and was beatified in 1671.

Canvas size = 100cm wide x 40cm high

Prints are now only available via my website, though I do sign them. I have disabled all prints of my artwork on DA in protest as they removed my featured artwork, didn't adhere to their own policies and ignored my communications so I don't see why I should contribute financially with print commissions...

wow, remarkably brilliant peice I must say.........from all I've seen from you, this one takes all. Beautifully detailed and perfect serine appulation. You couldn't have done a better job unless if it wasn't actually chizzled out of stone.

Thx. I'm a deep sculpture fan and I find this sort of stuff incredibly erotic. I've another one planned for a rainy day when I've time, again inspired by Bernini, but they take sooooooooo long to do and don't sell well for some reason. meanwhile, this one has pride of place in my personal gallery, so I'm happy.
