Original oil painting on 120cm x 60cm stretched canvas, produced entirely using a knife.

Soloist Ballerina Egle Spokaite performs as famed athletic Russian ballerina Olga Spessivtseva in Boris Eifman's mythologized Red Gizelle. Her Dedication to a Performance passionately expressed as is her trademark.

There's many more figurative, dance and portrait fine art original oil paintings, pastels and signed gicleé prints on my website: R Young Art

Re-uploaded and made available as prints following requests.

Ooh ballet - one of my favorite subjects! It is interesting the angle you used to capture this moment from giselle. Traditionally in photographs I am used to seeing the arms folded up view from the side or front. Definetly awesome that you did this just using a knife. I can't fathom trying to blend solely using that utensil!

I forgot to ask you. How long did this take? Your work is wonderful as well as extraordinarily realistic. It's amazing that you did this with a knife...

Thx. This particular painting took around 2 hours to sketch, then around 20 or so hours to paint over two weeks, as I paint late at night when I get a few hours to myself in my studio... Knife painting is much quicker for me as I use a very limited colour palette and mix & blend only on the canvas to save time. I am very impatient, easily become bored and need to move on to the next artwork...

Thx Matt. This is blended on the canvas. I occasionally layer though...
